The Songs
Snowfalls on the just: remember the following – we have all lost friends, family members, and others who were important to us.
This song came from an abiding and deep place in our hearts. Rich, our bandleader, lost several classmates to Covid. They were all
graduates of the Military Academy. The song has a bit of a military march feel to it while at the same time, it conveys a slow and steady
melancholy. When you play this song, remember the special people that you knew, helped shape you, and are now gone.
Farewell lost friends – we lose friends in many ways. In our first song, remember the fallen, we focused on loss through death. This
song is broader. Sometimes people just grow part. Sometimes there are incidences that cause separations. Other times, there are external
factors that intervene and cause irreparable divides between us. If you have ever lost a friend, a lover, a child, or anyone important to you,
this song is for you.
Frozen heart – there are times when what you need most is a good cry. When that time comes, and it comes for all of us, put “frozen
heart” on repeat, shut your door, and let the emotion flow out of you. No one is judging. No one is watching. Just be. Then, dust yourself
off, open the door, and face the world with renewed hope and faith.
Beware of cougars – this was a fun song to write. It has actually been in the process of being composed and recorded over a 15 year
period. It starts with the strings, the incessant longings of the cougar. Then, the carefree woodwind of the prey joins the song and twines
with the cougar's theme. Now you hear the joint melody, the dance of cougar and prey. A little later in the song, you can hear the
accordion come in offering advice to the prey. The message is left purposefully ambiguous because we want you as the listener to
interpret it in a way that makes the most sense for you. We hope that you enjoy listening to this song as much as we did composing and
recording it.
