Our Story to Date
3/29/2023 Morning of Freezeday of Death Week, Sea Season, Year of the Overlord 2164. Within a week, the town of Eleva has grown threefold in size, with people coming from the east. During the night, Chance had a dream in which he was visited by his patron, Nikkel, who said he was giving him a gift to help the party. When Chance awoke, he found a bag containing five stones by his head. The property of the stones appeared to be that it allows the wielder to grow in ability without needing to train for a week, but the stone would be consumed in the process. That morning, Baron Kirin approached the party about a plan he had devised to sell land to farmers. The farmers would still swear fealty to the Counts and pay taxes, but the land would belong to them. Given the circumstances, the party thought this a reasonable idea. The party discussed what they should do next, and eventually agreed to head north towards Mondlieb in the hopes of gaining allies from the lycanthropes. As the party passed the plinth they had used to first travel to Eleva, they encountered eight clerics newly arrived to cleanse Baron Markowitz’s manor. The party sent Helegan to lead the clerics to the manor and the rest of the party continued on their way towards Mondlieb. As they approached some ruins on their way to the forest, an arrow whizzed overhead as a warning shot. The party was greeted by three werefoxes named Colleen, Marrie, and Phillip. The party explained that they were there as the new Counts and were looking to forge an alliance against Baron Markowitz and the halflings. Phillip suggested they would need to talk to Lord Ole, a werebear and, until recently, the undisputed leader of the lycanthropes. Just then, the party heard howling off from the west, and a group of a dozen hostile werewolves fell upon them. Gunter used the Bag of Randomness and turned invisible. With the werewolves starting further away and out of melee range, Igny cast Moonbeam, causing the affected werewolf to transform back into human form. Phillip, Colleen, and Marrie fired their bows at the werewolves as they converged on the party’s position. As the werewolves approached the party, they started to bunch together some, and Chance hit many of them with a fireball. Igny continued to move his Moonbeam around the battlefield, hitting different targets and transforming them back into human form. The werewolves in human form quickly fled. Although many of the werewolves had fallen or fled from the party’s barrage of attacks, a few still broke through and attacked Igny. Fortunately, Igny deflected most of their attacks, and, thanks to his Paladin resistances, avoided contracting lycanthropy. Before long, the party had killed the stragglers and the battle was over. Phillip informed the party that they were lucky in that they had only been facing half-breed werewolves. Full- blooded werewolves were known to be immune to weapon attacks except from magical or silvered weapons. The party quickly collected what they could from the werewolf corpses, collecting 260 lunars and 30 wheels. Additionally, they found two cloaks of protection, which were distributed to Gunther and Chance. Under Phillip’s advice, the party burned the bodies, and camped at the nearby ruins. The next day, the party arrived at the edge of the woods around noon, and Phillip entered the forest first to announce the party’s arrival. When he returned, Phillip led the party into the woods to meet with Lord Ole and his wife, Selvina. Ole told the party about the recent developments. The werewolves and wereboars, led by the four werewolves Fido, Killer, Baby, and Candy, had split from the rest of the lycanthropes, and taken control of Elk Creek, casting Ole out. Prior to this, Baron Markowitz had been the liaison to the lycanthropes and spoke of strange things, such as talking colorful crystals and odd ideas of governance. As it stood, Lord Ole had many issues to contend with. He had been cast out of Elk Creek by the werewolves, and to the southeast a giant creature, resembling an uber hobgoblin, was marauding. At the same time, to the northeast, the forest had been taken over by a group of Dark Fey, allowed into Zhalindor as a consequence of Baron Markowitz’s experiments. Lord Ole had sent some forces against the Dark Fey, but most died in battle, while the survivors were either blind or taken by madness. Lord Ole asked the party to help with Dark Fey and the werewolves, and he would provide forces to help the party with the uber hobgoblin. If together they could eliminate these threats, Lord Ole could reunite the lycanthropes and swear fealty to the Duke again. The party agreed to help in these matters. As they were departing this meeting, Lord Ole’s wife, Selvina, pulled the party aside and told them of an additional personal matter. Their daughter, Ginger, was mating with Fido, one of the four werewolf usurpers. Selvina asked the party to try to convince Ginger to return to her family. And with that the session ended. TL;DR: the party killed some werewolves and promised to help a werebear regain control over the forest.
