3/8/2023 Fireday of Harmony Week, Sea Season, Year of the Overlord 2164. The party reconvened in the evening after their encounter with the spiders and uber hobgoblin. Chance “accidentally” dropped his journal on the ground, and when Igny picked it up, he saw the latest entry revealed that Chance was under a geas from the uber hobgoblin! The geas instructed him to bring the Disk of Worlds to the forest east of Eleva at midnight, and not to tell anyone. Failure to follow the geas would result in severe psychic pain. Igny shared the information with the rest of the party. The party collectively decided that they would set up an ambush between the town and the meeting place. Chance would go ahead alone, but instead of handing over the Disk of Worlds, he would drink his potion of flying and escape, luring the hobgoblin into the party’s ambush. That was the plan, anyway. Before they set out, Chance made a feeble, but sincere, attempt to destroy the Disk of Worlds by stepping on it, triggering the psychic pain of the geas. Then they set out towards the east. With Chance some 100 feet ahead of the rest of the party, the party began to set up their ambush. Maddeus climbed a tree to use as a vantage point and hiding place, only to come face-to-face with one of the giant spiders! Just as soon as Maddeus realized this, the uber hobgoblin appeared directly in front of Chance and demanded the Disk of Worlds. When Chance refused, the uber hobgoblin attacked Chance doing grievous damage before Chance could even react. Igny tried to make his way to Chance, but another giant spider shot him with a web, trapping him! The rest of the party was bogged down fighting the giant spiders, leaving Chance on his own. Chance drank the potion of flying, but as he flew away to make his escape, the uber hobgoblin swiped at him, knocking him to the ground unconscious. Igny used “Misty Step” to escape the spider web, and ran to Chance but he was not fast enough. The uber hobgoblin grabbed the bag of holding from Chance, shouted something to the spiders, and immediately disappeared. The spiders fled to the south. Igny first tried casting “Detect Enemies” which failed to reveal the location of the uber hobgoblin. Then Igny tried casting “Locate Object” on the bag of holding. However, he still could not find the bag, leading him to deduce that the uber hobgoblin had teleported away, and was not merely invisible and nearby. Igny and Mobec administered aid to Chance, who revealed that the bag of holding did not actually contain the Disk of Worlds; the uber hobgoblin had been fooled! The party, frustrated by the loss of their bag of holding, returned to Eleva to rest for the night. Chance gave Igny the Disk of Worlds for safekeeping. The next morning, Godsday of Harmony Week, without any leads on the uber hobgoblin, the party decided to follow up on Ragin Bunce’s suggestion that they go to the grotto to try to recover a “memory stone” that would share the Baron’s thoughts and memories with the user. As they were about to leave Eleva, eight knights – initiates of Humakt – rode into town, coming from Chagna Fel to bolster the town defenses. At the grotto, the party discovered that the local townspeople had discovered the grotto and were all making good use of it and even enjoying looking at the paintings inside. Following some directions from Bunce, Maddeus was able to locate a memory stone and use it. Maddeus instantly had a vision of a feast, where a halfling, surrounded by other halflings, approached him and spoke of the plight of the workers, which the halfling said must end in revolution. From the memory, Maddeus could tell the Barron felt himself agreeing with what the halfling was saying. And with this the session ended. TL;DR: The party lost the bag of holding again, and discovered that the Barron had been corrupted by a commie halfling.
