The Songs
This section will describe a bit about each of the songs.
Dancing on Nails in F (5:20)
Dr G started working on this song while serving in Iraq in
2009. The music video for this song has been the intro
video for the popular YouTube channel “thedrgames” for
several years. It starts with a shimmering topline and
drops a subtle beat before introducing the gunmetal drive
and hirsute combs.
Echoes of Rain (3:20)
The song alternates between a Euro style lead synth and a
concert grand piano, playing the top line. A driving, Berlin
type 4x4 beat keeps your feet moving. The song has an
evolving oramentation with a variety of mid-range
instruments and effects to keep things interesting.
Mortuus Muris EDM (5:32)
Joel Zimmerman, better known to most as Dead Mouse,
recently had an epiphany that he could rework some of
his best loved Electronic Dance Music (EDM) tunes as
Classical pieces. Joel challenged a group of composers
and producers to compose an EDM piece and a
companion Classical piece. So, “Mortuus Muris EDM” and
“Passacaglia Mortuss Muris” came to be. (The Passacaglia
is on the album “A Time to Go.”) A passacaglia is a
Classical form that is noted for its “conto basso,” constant
bass. If there was ever a form of Classical music that
parallels EDM it is the passacaglia form.
Stuttering Thunder (7:12)
Rich wrote this song after attending his 62nd memorial
service while serving in Iraq in 2009. There are a range of
emotions present in the song from hope to sadness and
joy to pain. You will want to listen to this song many times
and each time will reveal something new and deeper.
Waves Around Me Dance (4:35)
This song was motivated by the Covid crisis and Rich’s
neighborhood’s positive response. As Rich saw families
and communities pull together, the song started to form
in his head. There are both melodic and counterpoint
aspects in the song that all lead to a positive resolution
while being carried by an engaging 4x4 beat.
El Varmito (5:57)
Dr G is a mentor to many new, younger composers. This
song was created to help one of the young protege’s learn
the basics of EDM song creation. The song has a lot of the
traditional aspects of an EDM song, but it has some
unique pieces to it including the Classical music intro and
outro.
Homecoming (1:51)
Rich wrote this one as a response to an Australian Indie
film company’s request for a song that they could use as
part of a cheesy Sci Fi series. Rich was looking for a mid-
90s, Euro dance floor feel with this one.
I can't Stop Dancing (8:24)
This song was originally composed and recorded in 2013.
It was “in the can” ready for final mixing and production,
and Dr G rediscovered it in creating the masters for this
album. Enjoy the updated and remastered version
presented here.
Dog is My Copilot (2:01)
This was one of the very first songs that Dr G composed
back in 2003. It is included as an homage to Dr G’s first
DAW, a Magix Musik Maker 3 on a Win XP system with a
Turtle Bay soundcard. Enjoy!
New Day Dance (3:09)
This is a fun mix of vocals, drops, and an evolving top line
with an off-beat rhythm. Move your arms, shake your
hips, and catch the beat in your feet!
Snake Trance (4:34)
This is a great song to sit back, relax, and just listen. There
is a lot going on in the background of this song. Weighing
in at 28 tracks, listen for the subtle changes from section
to section. You can come back to this song again and
again and hear something new each time. Put this song
on repeat and enjoy.
Vindicta (3:44)
Dr G wrote this song the day after he received some very
good news. Unfortunately, sometimes in our world, evil
does triumph, and sometimes, after a long, hard fight,
good wins - as it did in this case. Feel the pure joy at the
victory of good in this song. Never give up. Always hope,
love, and have faith.
